Free Educational Program upcoming at Bickford in Quincy
Open to the Public
On Thursday, February 23rd, 2012 Bickford in Quincy will be hosting an educational presentation relating to Identity Theft Awareness and Protection for adults and seniors in the Quincy area. Identity Theft is the fastest growing white-collar crime in America, costing nearly 9 million victims annually any where between 55 and 130 hours and $1,200 and $5,000 to resolve on their own. This free program will focus on:
• The Five Common Types Of Identity Theft
• How To Help Protect Your Identity
• Credit Report Monitoring
• Keys To A Sound Data Security Plan

This presentation is part of Bickford’s ongoing community connections program designed to help educate our community on everything from legal and financial affairs to health and medical matters, as well as keep the connection between Bickford’s Residents and their community strong.
Free refreshments will also be provided compliments of Bickford.

The Salvation Army Taking Applications for
Dress an Angel Program

The 48th annual Dress-An-Angel clothing project, sponsored by The Salvation Army Women’s Auxiliary, is scheduled for Saturday, March 31st.This program provides a new set of clothing for children from infants through age 12. Approximately 400 children will be provided with a new set of clothing for Easter. Every child will also receive a children’s version of the New Testament Bible.Registration will begin Thursday, February 16th at The Salvation Army Family Services office at 333 N. 6th Street. Applications will be accepted from 10:00am to Noon, and from 1:00pm to 3:00pm, Monday through Thursday. The application deadline is Friday, March 15th.Those who would like to apply for this program are encouraged to do so as soon as possible, so that the appropriate clothing can be purchased for the children in time for Easter.For more information about the Dress-An-Angel program, contact Brenda Mason at (217) 231-5637.

Alzheimer’s Association Presents Free Program in Quincy

The Alzheimer’s Association – Central Illinois Chapter, Quincy Area Office is offering “Now What Was I Saying?,” a public health and education program focusing on healthy brain aging. The presentation will take place Tuesday, Feb. 21, 1:00 – 3:00 p.m., at the Quincy Senior Center, 639 York Street, Quincy.

The program will be presented by Education Specialist Tim Klobe, MSE. Klobe will examine the physical health of the brain and its role in memory, the differences between normal aging and dementia, techniques to improve memory, and recommend lifestyle changes to improve brain health.  The program is free and open to the public and is co-funded by the West Central Illinois Area Agency on Aging.

Alzheimer’s Association First Friday’s Program To Feature Hy-Vee Pharmacists

Two pharmacists will discuss prescription medications at the Alzheimer's Association First Friday’s program to be held Friday, March 2. The lunch time event will begin at 11:45 a.m. at the Quincy Senior and Family Resource Center, 639 York St., Quincy. Featured speakers will be Melissa Harbin, PharmD., and Ric Crider, RPH, both of Hy-Vee Pharmacy.
The program is free to the public although reservations are required. Lunch will be served at 11:45 a.m.; the presentation will begin at Noon. Caregivers can also take advantage of respite care available through the Adult Day Care Center located at the Senior Center and through homemaker services. Advance registration is required for respite care. The program is made possible through a grant from the West Central Illinois Area Agency on Aging. To register, please call 228-1111.
