Select and book your ceremony location

Who will officiate if not your minister or priest

Decide how many guests you will invite

Reserve blocks of hotel rooms for out-of-town guests

Book the band or DJ

Decide on how many attendants, groomsmen, ushers, flower girls, ring bearers

Begin to look for bridal gowns, bridesmaid's dresses, tuxedos

Begin shopping for a photographer and videographer

Begin looking for a florist

Create a bridal registry and/or an engagement registry

Consider pre-marital counseling

 
 
6-9 Months Before:

Begin to compile your guest list with both families

Select your attendants

Purchase the bridal gown...groom's tuxedo...bridesmaid's dresses

Arrange for groomsmen to be measured for tuxedos...if they are not local, most shops will measure as a courtesy

Shop for the bridal headpiece, veil and other accessories

Begin to plan the honeymoon

Select a florist and choose flowers

Order the wedding cake

Reserve the location of the Rehearsal Dinner

Arrange transportation...limousines, horse & carriage, vans etc

 
4-6 Months Before:

Make an appointment for a physical exam and dental exam

Check requirements for your wedding location....blood test etc

Shop for wedding rings

Choose the invitations and stationery

Make sure all the men's attire is selected and they have been measured

Complete the guest list

Shop for trousseau

Help mothers to select their dresses

Finalize the honeymoon arrangements

 
2-4 Months Before:

Confirm the menu and details with the caterer

Prepare maps and directions to the ceremony location, reception and hotel

Select wedding rings

Buy a guest book

Confirm dates and times with Rehearsal Dinner restaurant, church and reception venue

Plan the bridesmaid's luncheon and other parties

Design the program for the ceremony

Finalize the details with the florist, photographer, videographer, DJ, band etc

Finalize the Rehearsal Dinner menu

Confirm the wedding cake details with the Bakery

 
6-8 Weeks Before:

Mail invitations and announcements

Check with your local newspaper for details and timing of wedding announcement

Set appointment with photographer for pre-bridal photos

Buy gifts for attendants

Set appointments for hair, nails and makeup

Hire transportation...limo etc

 
4-6 Weeks Before:

Decide and confirm menu for the reception. Give estimated number of guests

Buy a gift for the groom

Schedule final fitting for the bridal gown

Pick up wedding rings

Purchase all wedding accessories...ring pillow,garter belt, candles, goblets, cake knife etc

Confirm florist details

Plan seating arrangements for the reception

Print placement cards

Final fitting of bridesmaid's dresses

Buy a gift for the bride

Choose the music for the ceremony and reception...first dance, parents dances etc

Give the music information to the musicians and/or DJ

 
2 Weeks Before:

Make arrangements to have wedding gifts moved to your new home

Handle business and legal changes, such as name and address

Prepare wedding announcement for the newspaper

Confirm hotel reservations for guests

Be sure all wedding attire and accessories are ready

Get marriage license and any blood tests if needed

 
 
One Week Before:

Review seating details with the ushers

Finalize seating arrangements

Reconfirm honeymoon reservations and make sure you have tickets etc

Begin packing for the honeymoon

Call guests that have not responded

Finish placement cards for the reception

Review final details with photographer etc

Give final headcount to caterer

Confirm with musicians and/or DJ

Delegate responsibilities to individuals for the wedding day

Wrap the wedding party gifts

Finalize rehearsal dinner arrangements

 
One Day Before:

Get a massage to relax

Stay with your family the night before and get to sleep early

The Big Day:

Make sure the best man and maid of honor sign the marriage license

Allow plenty of time to get dressed

Relax with a hot bath

Go to hairdresser and makeup appointments
